Submission and Formatting Instructions


  • Submit a CD containing all documents as separate files in word or PDF format with one-inch minimum margins and minimum 10 point font.
  • Include page number and nominee name/document name/award name on all pages of all documents, for example:
    • Page 1 of 3
    • John Smith/Essay/Olmsted Scholarship

Applications must adhere to submission guidelines and deadlines in order to be considered. Additional materials will not be reviewed.

Nomination Contents


Please submit the following as separate files on the CD. The first item is for contact information and internal use. Items 2 and 3 will be used as submitted on the LAF website and for promotion and publicity. Items 4-6 will be provided to the jury.

1. Nomination Form

This form requires that a faculty member be identified to serve as the contact for LAF inquiries and/or reports, and the signatures of both the nominee and the chair of the department.

2. Nominee Summary (150 words maximum)

Provide a summary for use on the LAF website that includes the following:

  • Name
  • University
  • Degree(s) sought
  • Career Focus
  • Paragraph not to exceed 150 words that includes background, current educational pursuits, highlights of CV, future plans, interests and personal information
3. Photo

Please provide a color, 300 ppi (pixels per inch) photo, size 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 inches in .jpg format. The photo should be a head-and-shoulder shot of the subject looking directly at the camera with a plain background. LAF retains the right to publish photos submitted with nominations on the LAF web site and for promotion of the scholarship program.

4. Faculty Statement of Support (two-page maximum)

A statement of support from the nominee's faculty should clearly summarize and illustrate the reason for the nomination. This statement should present a compelling argument for selection, using specific examples when possible and should avoid reiterating information found in the other nomination materials. Someone within the nominating group must write the nominating statement. Up to three character testimonials may be incorporated as part of the statement of support. These should support the general points made in the faculty statement.

5. Personal Profile Content (two-page maximum)

Please include the following:

Education
  • Name of accredited university currently attending/planning to attend
  • Academic status, cumulative units/credits and cumulative GPA
  • Anticipated graduation date
  • Date of Birth
Extracurricular Activities
  • Memberships and affiliations
  • Public service
  • Professional experience
  • Honors, awards and recognition
  • Published material
  • Other Extracurricular activities
6. Essay by Nominee (two-page maximum)

Describe your personal development and how it has influenced your direction and vision for the future. Discuss how you see your role in advancing sustainable planning and design and fostering human and societal health and well-being. Please include information on how you would use the funds to advance your leadership in your areas of interest.
