New Scholarship Established in Memory of Courtland Paul

The Landscape Architecture Foundation received a $25,000 pledge from The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Foundation to help establish The Courtland Paul Scholarship which will provide a significant award to an undergraduate landscape architecture student who is in the junior or senior year of study in a landscape architectural program.

A number of smaller donations continue to accrue to the fund, bringing it to over $28,500 to date.

The criteria include demonstrated leadership in landscape architecture at an early age, demonstrated ability to surmount life obstacles, a high level of drive and financial need.

“We are honored that friends and colleagues of Courtland Paul, including The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Foundation, have chosen to perpetuate the legacy of Courtland Paul by creating a significant scholarship. It is critical to support the next generation of landscape architects, and scholarships such as this one help fill a real need,” said Grant Jones, vice president of education for LAF.

The scholarship will honor the memory of Courtland Paul and his lifelong commitment to the landscape architecture profession. Mr. Paul died in January 2003 at the age of 75. Native to California, Mr. Paul become one of that state’s first landscape architects. He founded Peridian International in Newport Beach more than fifty years ago. The firm continues to specialize in community design and master planning, as well as golf course and theme park design.

Contributions to the Courtland Paul Scholarship Fund can be sent to the Landscape Architecture Foundation and should be addressed to the attention of Ron Figura, 818 18th St. NW, Suite 810, Washington, DC, 20006.
