LAF
American Landscape Fund Donor Profile: Landscape Forms
The Landscape Architecture Foundation is honored to announce a leadership level gift of $20,000 from Landscape Forms to the American Landscape Fund. A long time LAF supporter, Landscape Forms was one of only five supplier/contractor firms to support the Second Century Campaign at the $100,000 level. The company has also sponsored the LAF Benefit Dinner for the past seven years. Bill Main, president of Landscape Forms, commented, “We have a long and deep relationship with the landscape architecture community and with the Landscape Architecture Foundation. We are very encouraged to see LAF and landscape architects taking leadership roles in larger issues and are pleased to continue to invest in the profession in this way.” Landscape Forms, Inc. was founded in 1969 by landscape architect John Chipman, Sr., whose idea of making design a hallmark of outdoor commercial furnishings remains a focus of the company today. The company is headquartered in Kalamazoo, Michigan and is a recognized industry leader for its creative designs and durable commercial-grade site furnishings that are perfect for spaces that demand high style. In February 2002, Landscape Forms partnered with frog design, a product development and business strategy firm, to form a think tank to study the impact of landscape design on behavioral patterns and social interactions in outdoor environments. High-profile panels were assembled and consisted of leading design professionals, city and transportation planners, developers, sociologists and futurists. A series of interviews, observations and round table discussions explored how an integrated, planned approach to the design of public space can be utilized to create outdoor environments that encourage social interaction, stimulate creativity and build community, thereby improving the human experience in urban environments. The research findings will be co-published by the LAF, and shared with industry professionals and educators worldwide. The study is the first of its kind in the design industry. Landscape Forms client list includes the New York City Business District, AOL, Hewlett Packard, Universal Studios, Harvard University, Western Michigan University, Nike, Cisco Systems, Disney, Chrysler, MicroSoft, Mayo Clinic, Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Harrahs, and Marriott, to name a few.
