Benefits Toolkit
The Landscape Performance Series Benefits Toolkit is a searchable collection of online tools and calculators to estimate landscape performance.
The tools can be used to estimate specific landscape benefits for completed projects when actual measurements are not available, or they can be used in the design phase to compare projected benefits among various options. Many tools also allow the user to compare life-cycle costs for conventional and sustainable design features.

Urban Heat Island Mitigation Impact Screening Tool (MIST)
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
2005This tool estimates the likely impacts of heat island mitigation strategies at the city-scale. After choosing one of the 200+ U.S. cities, users enter positive or negative values to represent the desired level of change in albedo and/or urban vegetative cover or average temperature. The tool then estimates the impacts on meteorology, energy consumption, and ozone concentration. Although MIST is based on state-of-the-science models, the necessary assumptions and interpolation/extrapolation mean that results are only a first-order estimate and include a high degree of uncertainty.
