New LAF Program Manager

Headshot Valerie Carter

The Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) is pleased to welcome Valerie Carter, who joined the organization on February 7 as Program Manager for LAF scholarships and forthcoming scholarship-internship-mentorship program. This expansion position was created both to prepare for the launch of the new program and to accommodate growth in scholarships. Over the last three years, LAF has added 6 scholarships and seen a near doubling of the total amount available to students.

Born in Richmond, Virginia and raised in Charlottesville, Valerie attended Piedmont Virginia Community College. She spent four years in Brooklyn, New York, then moved back to Virginia and now resides in Arlington. Prior to LAF, Valerie worked at AT&T as a sales and communications specialist. Other experience includes operations management and event planning and promotion. In these roles, she mentored and provided coaching for employees.

In her free time, Valerie prefers the comforts of being at home. She is a voracious reader and loves listening to audio books, jazz and R&B vinyl records, drawing, and occasionally playing the piano for family and friends. When she ventures out, Valerie enjoys bringing her dog Kobe, a Chihuahua mix, to the local dog-friendly restaurants and meeting up with friends to play pool. On her bucket-list is to travel to all 50 states — she has been to 32 so far, including Alaska.

We are delighted to have Valerie on our dynamic LAF team!

LAF is grateful to the many individuals and organizations that provide financial support towards fulfilling our mission to support the preservation, improvement, and enhancement of the environment.

Much of what LAF is able to accomplish would not be possible without the thought leadership and financial investment of our major supporters, including ASLA, which provides over $125,000 of in-kind support annually.
